@LucyChoules @DaveB what timings suit you? The rain eases off by midday? Happy to do a shorter ride perhaps setting off a bit later…?

All,
I am looking to arrange an away day cycling in the Peak District. The idea would be to leave Buckingham fairly early (7am?), drive up to Ashbourne, and ride a loop into the peaks from there.
The day is open to all but would depend on the level of interest and volunteers coming forward to organise rides for each level. I will arrange an A ride, which will feature a little climbing ;-) but all options can be catered for if people are interested.
Ideas for rides welcome - Ashbourne cycling club have a library that may be useful:

Heading north this week, out through Silverstone and Blakesley, reaching some less familiar roads through Everdon and Hellidon, then back south through Byfield to our stop at Culworth Forge. A shorter leg home: south to Charlton then turning east to get the tail wind through Evenley. As with any Northants route it is a little bumpy.
Note that we pick up the A421 for 1.5 miles to Finmere given the scheduled road closure at Mixbury (and separately also at Chetwode, which was my first alternative). Any other suggestions welcome!
Weather forecast 7-10C cloudy and we will mainly have a westerly cross-wind (12mph).
Distance: 54.5 miles / 88km, with the cafe at 35 miles / 56.5km
Ascent: approx 2700 ft / 825m
Speed: 17-19mphIt would be great if you can join the ride; please sign up if you're coming along!

@StewartB - the junction of Church Lane and Featherbed Lane (between Mixbury and Fulwell) on your route home is due to be completely closed from tomorrow for a month; see:
https://www.hs2.org.uk/work-items/hs2-works-notification-temporary-road-closures-mixbury/
It’s going to be a bit of a limitation for our rides to the west!

No skin off my nose @John_walker74, makes sense and maybe we should re-use old rides more often! Looking forward to it

Weather forecast to be cold (2C rising to 6C) with a light N / NE wind. Wrap up warm!
Distance: 52 miles / 84km, with the cafe almost exactly half way at 27 miles / 43km
Ascent: approx 2600 ft / 800m
Speed: probably 17-18mphHope you can join us - please sign up if you're coming!

A little variety heading west, albeit reusing a route from last year:
We head into the wind, west as far as Bloxham, turning south to Sandford St Martin and then back via the Heyfords, calling in at Spokes for a coffee and hopefully a sausage roll if they have any left. The front-loaded route means a shorter return journey on familiar roads via Caversfield.
Distance: 83km / 51 miles, with the stop at 55km / 34 miles
Ascent: approx 700m / 2300 ft
Speed: 17 - 19mph, sticking togetherHope to see you on Sunday - please sign up if you're coming!

That’s fine @RobFactor👍, see you there

A slightly shorter route to start the New Year which may suit those who haven't been able to get out so much in December - or who need to get back home early, like me!
Not many teashops are open but Phoenix Kitchen at Claydon House is, and we have a few bumps on the way to get our legs working - but nothing too taxing. Those who fancy a longer route are welcome to extend the second leg, or you can head straight home from the cafe if time is tight.
Distance: 44 miles / 72km, with the stop at 29 miles / 47km
Ascent: approx. 550m / 1800 ft
Speed: around 17mphHope to see you out for the first ride of 2023 - please sign up if coming!

Great, thanks @PaulW and @DaveB. I shall officially update the date. It already seems to suit more people which is great!
@FrancineVL maybe this would allow you to come along if still interested?
